Presidents (Maori) Scholarship

Karahipi Tumuaki - The President's (Maori) Scholarship

One Scholarship offered annually - $2000 plus a year's free membership of the Society.

Applicants will:

  • identify ethnically as Maori and be active in the Maori community;

  • be enrolled for a degree requiring a piece of research to fulfil the research requirements of either a Masters or higher level post-graduate degree in Psychology. The research must be Maori-centred and of use to the Maori community;

  • Have career aspirations that indicate a desire to engage in further Maori-centred psychological research, and to work for the betterment of Maori.

    Applications are considered by a Scholarship Review Panel, consisting of three psychologists, including the Society President (or their nominee), and two Maori jointly nominated by the Society's National Standing Committee on Bicultural Issues and the Maori Psychologists' Network.

    Payment of the Scholarship:
    Eighty percent is paid on receipt of confirmation of the recipient's enrolment, and verification of ethical approval obtained or sought. The remaining twenty percent is paid when the recipient has completed: 1. a 1000 word summary of research findings for publication in the Society's Bulletin;and 2. submission and acceptance of an abstract to present a paper based on the results (or preliminary findings) of the research at the Society's Annual Conference in the year following the award.
