Membership

The categories of membership that can be applied for:
Full Membership, Subscribership, or Student Subscribership . Different subscription rates apply.

Full Membership

Open to anyone who:

- Has a Doctorate, Masters, or Honours Degree in the field of psychology;
- An approved post-graduate degree in Education (with at least two Psychology papers passed at PG level). In addition, either a thesis on a psychological topic must have been accepted or a minimum of one years supervision acceptable to the Society has been undertaken;

- Equivalent qualifications or experience approved by the Society.

Applicants for Full Membership must be nominated and seconded by two current Society members, and the process of membership balloting and confirmation takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Subscribership

Subscribership is open to anyone who does not meet the criteria for full membership. Subscribers are entitled to receive all of the benefits of membership, including member rates on publications, preferential booking at conferences and advice from the society's office. Subscribers are not eligible to vote or hold office in the Society

Temporary Subscribership is available for people who are resident overseas or newly arrived permanent residents in New Zealand who could qualify for Full Membership but who cannot immediately obtain nomination for Full Membership as required under the Rules. Temporary Subscribership is available for a maximum period of up to one year after arrival in New Zealand.

Student Subscribership

Student subscribership is open to anyone enrolled full-time in a post-graduate psychology course at a New Zealand educational institution; or enrolled part-time and not eligible for Full Membership of the Society. Two fee options offer different membership benefits.

Applications to join the Society's Institutes are available from National Office (membership@psychology.org.nz. You must be a current member of NZPsS to join an Institute.
