Institute of Educational and Developmental Psychology (IEDP)The IEDP is an institute within NZPsS for Members whose practice is: primarily in the area of children, young persons, their families and in learning environments
based on the ecological model, considering the developing young person in the context of the various settings which both influence and are influenced by them (e.g., family, school, cultural or religious group, wider community, etc)
founded on a strong research base that includes training and experience in the core areas:
human development; applied behaviour analysis; psychological assessment; psychological
research; counselling theory and practice
Membership RequirementsFull members must be current members of the NZPsS; Full Membership (Practitioner) - be NZ registered, and have demonstrated
academic training and competency in core subjects at a post-graduate level including
(e.g., by holding a PG Dip in Educational Psychology):
human development
- educational psychology
- applied behaviour analysis
- psychological assessment
- psychological research
- counselling. Full Membership (Academic) - Persons currently working in the tertiary education sector and primarily involved in teaching or research activities related to the field of educational, child or developmental psychology may make application for and be granted full academic membership within the Institute. They must have post-graduate qualifications in educational, child or developmental psychology. [Provisional Membership - May be granted to Full Member applicants until such time as they have satisfied the Institute that they can meet the criteria for full membership.] Associate Members - Members of the Society who have interests in the educational and developmental field but who will not qualify for full membership of the Institute have no wish to work towards achieving this. They will not have voting rights and they cannot claim any form of membership on letterhead, etc Student Members - NZPsS Student Subscribers currently studying for a qualification in child, developmental or educational psychology at a post-graduate level.
